John Wink, Director and founder of John Wink Design (JWD), has died on Friday, August 21, 2026. His passing has been described as sudden and has left colleagues, clients, and the wider architectural community in shock and mourning.
Wink was a Chartered Architectural Technologist with 25 years of experience in the industry. He began his career at SAC Consulting, where he developed expertise in the agricultural sector, before spending eight years in private practice in Inverurie. In 2010, he founded John Wink Design, where he went on to build a respected architectural practice over the next 16 years.
Throughout his career, he was known for his strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and hands-on approach to client work. He regularly met with clients, visited sites, and remained closely involved in design work while also leading the company he founded.
Following his death, the company announced that operations would pause briefly as staff take time to process the loss. The firm also stated its commitment to continuing his work and maintaining the standards he established.
He is remembered as a mentor, leader, and central figure within his company and profession, and tributes have been paid to his dedication, professionalism, and character.
